HONOLULU (AP) _ A 28-year-old Las Vegas woman is in critical condition after she hit a rocky hill while swinging on a rope yesterday at Kipu Falls on Kauai.
The woman is due to be airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center on Oahu.
Kauai County says in a press release that the woman intended to land in the pool beneath the falls but failed to let go of the rope.
Instead, she hit the side of a hill and fell into the water.
Friends and bystanders helped bring her to the water's edge.
Rescue specialists and firefighters from the Lihue station responded to an emergency call.
Kauai County has not released the woman's name.
In 2003, a 22-year-old University of Hawaii student died after swinging from a rope off a 30-foot high cliff at Kipu Falls.
