(Honokaa-AP) -- Big Island fire officials say a second day of searching has failed to locate a missing swimmer at Waipio Beach.
Witnesses told police Saturday that the 24-year-old man, a Korean natiional and a student at University of the Nations in Kona, was wading in waist-high water when a wave hit him and pulled him under. The witnesses said they didn't see the man surface.
The initial air, sea and land search effort ended because of darkness, but resumed Sunday morning as ground crews searched the shoreline, while a helicopter flew as far as two miles out to sea. Officials say there were no signs of the missing swimmer.
The search is scheduled to resume at first light today.
