WASHINGTON (AP) _ Hawaii Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye says senators have ``absolute faith'' in Alaska GOP Senator Ted Stevens. He's on trial on corruption charges.
Federal prosecutors have accused Stevens of lying on Senate documents about more than $250,000 in renovations on his Alaska cabin and other gifts from Bill Allen. He's the former head of an oil services company, VECO Corporation.
Inouye is a close friend of Stevens, having served with the Alaska senator on Capitol Hill since the 1960s. Inouye told prosecutors that said he's never heard of Stevens lying.
