HONOLULU (AP) _ A former tour bus driver charged with manslaughter for allegedly recklessly causing a crash that killed an Oahu man in 2006 was sentenced up to 20 years in prison.
Steve Oshiro's bid to withdraw his plea deal with prosecutors in the manslaughter case was also rejected yesterday.
Oshiro was driving a Roberts Hawaii bus that allegedly crossed the center line of Kamehameha Highway in Kahaluu and slammed head-on into a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Corey Voss, who died.
The bus continued on, crashing through a chain-link fence and smashing into a house. He also rear-ended a city bus about eight hours later.
Oshiro pleaded no contest to the charge in January as part of a deal with prosecutors in which he will serve no more than 10 years in prison. After changing defense lawyers in June, Oshiro asked to withdraw from the deal.
