HONOLULU (AP) _ Hawaii's largest ocean shipper says it's decreasing its fuel surcharge because of recent declines in bunker fuel prices.
Matson Navigation Company says the fuel surcharge for its Hawaii service will drop by 4.75 percentage points, from 42.25 to 37.5 percent.
The company also says the fuel surcharge for its Western Pacific service will fall by 4.75 percentage points, from 43.75 to 39 percent.
The new rates involving Hawaii, Guam, Micronesia and the Northern Mariana Islands go into effect September 21st. The current rates began last Sunday.
Dave Hoppes is Matson's senior vice president for ocean services.
He says for most customers, the reductions represent a decrease in shipping costs ranging from $115 to $180 per container.
