HILO, Hawaii (AP) _ The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will assist the state in assessing the health risk of volcanic gas spewing from Kilauea.
A CDC team and investigators from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry will visit the Big Island next month to conduct an analysis on the ``vog.''
The planned visit was discussed in an unannounced meeting Friday of the state interagency task force on vog hazards.
State civil defense spokesman Ray Lovell says the agency checked with the Attorney General's office and was told that the meeting did not fall under the Sunshine Law, which mandates openness in government.
