HONOLULU (AP) — Three new laws fighting illegal drug use are now on the books in Hawaii.
Governor Lingle has signed the bills into law.
The first measure requires pharmacies and retailers to keep electronic logs of sales of pseudophedrine, a precursor chemical necessary for the production of crystal methamphetamine. Those logs are then submitted to the Department of Public Safety monthly.
Another law allows police to seize vehicles and money from those involved in the transfer or sale of chemicals used to manufacture illicit drugs.
The third law tightens drug prescription and dispensing requirements to curb prescription fraud.
Lieutenant Governor James "Duke" Aiona says the laws will help decrease the number of clandestine drug labs in Hawaii.
