HONOLULU (AP) _ The federal governing is kicking in nearly 2 million dollars for transportation projects in Hawaii.
Hawaii Congresswoman Mazie Hirono says more than half of the money will be used in the design and construction of various transportation improvements.
The projects include a parking area within Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on Maui.
The funding will also go toward roadway improvements within the Kakahaia National Wildlife Refuge on Molokai and within the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on the Big Island.
The rest of the money from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be used to help pay for the construction of a new Kapolei Interchange Complex along Oahu's H-1 freeway.
