HONOLULU (AP) _ Honolulu generates the least amount of carbon dioxide pollution among the top 100 U.S. metropolitan areas.
The Brookings Institution says Honolulu produced about 1.36 metric tons of carbon emissions per person in 2005. That compares to about 3.5 metric tons for Lexington, Kentucky. It's the highest emitter on the list.
The report is based on emissions from transportation and buildings. But it doesn't include commercial buildings, industry, aircraft or gas burned while vehicles are stuck in traffic.
The report says emissions on the West Coast tend to be lower because the weather is more favorable and electricity and gas prices are higher.
Brookings Institution is a Washington-based think tank.
