Rain washes away section of Likelike Highway
|

(Honolulu-AP) -- Heavy rains have washed away a 20-foot-long section of Likelike Highway in upper Kalihi.
Police say the incident has left a hole that is 10-feet wide and 12 deep in the Honolulu-bound lanes.
The Honolulu-bound lanes of Likelike Highway are closed from Kahekili Highway. Honolulu-bound motorists from Windward Oahu will have to use the H-Three Freeway or the Pali Highway. State officials say they expect repairs to take at least two weeks.
A storm that began moving over Kauai early Friday has moved down the island chain. But after some clearing adn biref sunshine htis morning, Oahu ws hit with mroe rain.
A flash flood warning remains in effect for the Big Island and a flash flood watch is in effect for the other islands.
A high wind warning is in effect for the north, east and south areas of the Big Island and the summit of Haleakala on Maui.
The weather service also has issued a winter storm warning for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island.
The storm yesterday pounded Oahu, causing a mudslide in a Kalihi Valley neighborhood, power failures, and flooding. Delays of up to three hours were reported at Honolulu Airport.
