HONOLULU (AP) _ The new CEO of Hawaii Superferry says Kauai residents will decide whether the ferry service returns to the Garden Island.
Retired Navy Admiral Thomas Fargo says the service will resume to Kauai only if the community signals it wants it.
The Superferry hasn't sailed to Kauai since harbor protesters blocked its arrival in August.
State Senator Gary Hooser of Kauai says local sentiment against the Superferry has probably not changed much. He says the company needs to show it is forthright with the community.
Superferry spokeswoman Lori Abe says the company is continuing to talk with community members on Kauai.
Fargo says the company will start charging a regular one-way fare of $49 between Honolulu and Maui starting June 6. The current fare is $39.
