VOLCANO, Hawaii (AP) _ Hawaii County officials have canceled an evacuation recommendation for some residents living near Kilauea.
Big Island Civil Defense officials say sulfur dioxide levels that led to the evacuation advisory yesterday have dropped.
The advisory was for residents of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates in the Big Island's Kau district.
Officials say residents should still remain prepared to leave in case conditions change.
Officials closed Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for two days last week and evacuated 2,000 people because of elevated sulfur dioxide levels from the volcano's Halemaumau crater at the volcano's summit.
Kilauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes. Its current eruption began Jan. 3, 1983.
