HONOLULU (AP) _ A 14-day old baby boy has died at Honolulu International Airport.
Family members say Michael Futi of Tafuna, American Samoa, was locked in a customs room by immigration officers with his mother and a nurse when he died. Attorney Rick Fried says the baby had come to Hawaii for emergency heart surgery.
He says a wrongful death lawsuit is planned.
Police say the infant died at 5:50 a.m. local time on Friday after arriving on a flight from Pago Pago that landed at 5:30 a.m.
A spokesman for the state Transportation Department, Scott Ishikawa, says the child went into respiratory failure in the customs office. He says airport paramedics arrived at 6:10 a.m. but failed to revive him.
