PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) _ American Samoa's lieutenant governor has been arrested on a federal warrant and transported to Honolulu.
The FBI in Honolulu has not immediately responded to a call seeking information about the arrest of Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia in the U.S. territory.
According to the Samoa News, the lieutenant governor was taken into custody Saturday and transported by Coast Guard aircraft to Honolulu.
The nature of the warrant and the charges have not been disclosed.
Last year, Sunia professed his innocence in a federal investigation of the American Samoa education department. The probe focused on the time when Sunia was the government treasurer.
