PAHALA, Hawaii (AP) _ Residents of the Big Island have seen the last of Hurricane Flossie.
Flossie approached the Big Island with winds of up to 140 miles per hour earlier in the week. But the brunt of the storm never made landfall.
Flossie never got closer than 100 miles of land and petered out as it moved past late Tuesday, weakening to a tropical storm. It delivered only intermittent rain and moderate winds.
Hawaii County Civil Defense administrator Troy Kindred says Flossie fell apart right when it got close to the Big Island.
All the emergency shelters are now closed, while county, state and federal parks are open.
Officials have received no reports of damage from the hurricane.
