HONOLULU (AP) _ The U-S House has passed an appropriations bill that includes four and a-half (m) million dollars for the replacement of the visitor center at the U-S-S Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
Hawaii Congresswoman Mazie Hirono says measure also calls for tw-point-six (m) million dollars to be spent on the continuing effort to safeguard Hawaii from the brown tree snake.
Hirono said in a news release issued by her Washington office that introduction of the snake into Hawaii would be an ecological disaster. She notes the snake has already virtually eliminated the bird population on Guam.
The legislation also contains two-point-two (m) million dollars to replace an aging fuel farm at the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge.
And nearly two (m) million dollars would go for the Kealakekua Ranch Legacy Project.
